About the Makers

We both have a maker background: From one side growing up working in a family construction business building custom wood cabinets, garages, additions, and doing high-end kitchen and bath remodels and then transitioning to starting a small commercial finish carpentry business in 2014 that continues to operate successfully; From the other side learning sewing, crocheting, beadwork, claywork, painting and many other crafts from childhood and perfecting those skills throughout life, having brought joy to many a friend over the years with some handmade gift. We bring all of this passion and experience to the table as we start a new chapter with Wilmes Woodsies and Crafts!

History:

Wilmes Woodsies and Crafts began to take shape over the last few years as we struggled to look for something less grueling than the day-to-day environment of owning and operating a commercial construction business. Unfortunately most people no longer appreciate quality and prioritize cheap labor and sketchy materials over anything else. We wanted to be a part of something different, and as a result, our business emphasizes curated selections of quality materials over dirt-cheap supplies, meticulous hand-work over mass production, and enjoyment and a family-atmosphere over rigorous deadlines.

Our first project in this new endeavor consisted of a handmade maple American flatbow, a set of Port Orford Cedar arrows with feather fletchings, and to top it off, a custom leather handgrip for the bow. Bow making has long been a hobby and a request from a neighbor for a nice handmade target bow offered to finally turn this hobby into a business. Leatherworking, however, was new to us, and, armed with a cheap starter leatherworking kit, we set off to learn the nuances of the craft. Needless to say, the leather grip was well-received and we continued to develop our skills with leather, moving on to handmade knife holsters and eventually to leather jewelry, which turned to wooden jewelry, which moved to wooden signs, to leather notebooks, to semi-precious stone jewelry, and the list goes on.

We eventually realized that with our skillset, our only limitations were the imaginations of our clients and our own creativity! We take inspiration from everyday items and from nature, with a little help from our two canine kids. Our goal is and will continue to be to provide quality handmade products at high-value pricing for our friends to enjoy!
